Raised in small town Southern Illinois (we’re talking 250 people) with Arkansas roots, Tim grew up hunting, fishing, camping, 4-wheeler riding, farming and just about anything else involving the great outdoors. Tim is an avid whitetail deer hunter and enjoys turkey and waterfowl hunting when not focused on the elusive whitetail deer. Following a feral hog hunting trip to Texas in 2014, Tim is now completely addicted to hunting swine!

During the non hunting season, Tim enjoys shooting his bow, teaching archery to his two kids, bass fishing, BBQing, consuming quality bourbon and spending time with his family.

Tim resides with his family on the Whiskey and Whitetails Farm in Southern Illinois. That is the name we have given to our secluded piece of wooded land with a one acre size pond sitting right in the middle. Despite being only a 20 acre tract of land, this little slice of Heaven provides plenty of deer, turkey, and goose hunting opportunities.

Tim is a USA Archery certified instructor and promotes youth involvement in the sport through youth education and hands-on hunting experiences.

Justin is originally from the Rio Grande Valley, Mercedes, Texas specifically. Growing up on the border with few neighbors provided many opportunities for hunting, fishing, bow fishing, and shooting. Shifting gears from the big city of Dallas, back to small town life was not a hard one, especially when it was to an area loaded with deer and hunting opportunities like Southern Illinois has. The outdoors, the hunt, and the camaraderie that goes along with it is what brings him coming back for more every chance he gets.

Justin has shot archery competitively and enjoys hunting deer and feral hogs.

I recently ran across this quote from Fred Bear that really hit home for me, “A hunt based only on trophies taken falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be.” This really sums up a hunt for me. The experience and laughs shared are what really make the trip worth it.

Justin made the move back to Texas, the Houston area, in 2020. Although he may be 12 hours away, he is still a part of the Backwoods family.

Mike was born in Chicago Il and grew up in Evergreenpark Il. As a child, his dad would take them on camping trips and fishing trips. That’s where his love for the outdoors all started. He didn’t get into deer hunting until he moved to southern Il and now it’s an official addiction.

Mike has a daughter and 2 boys and a beautiful wife who has dealt with him for over 20 years (bless her soul). Both of his boys have picked up his love for hunting and fishing and the great outdoors.

Mike says the best choice he ever made was to move from the Chicago area to southern IL (Umm sorry kelly moving was my second best choice).
